Bio
My interest in photography goes back to where I grew up in the 1960’s in a suburb outside of NYC. I always felt it ‘magic’, to be able to capture a moment or place in time through a photograph. I spent my time in high school shooting B&W photos and developing them in a home darkroom for clubs, newspapers, and yearbooks. I continued studying photography in college at SUNY Albany before I moved to Colorado in 1976 and joined the graphics dept of Bell Laboratories in the early 1980s. I moved to digital photography in 1994 when my company added ‘building photographer’ to my list of responsibilities and they bought me the first ever DSLR—a Kodak DCS200, based on a Nikon film body fitted with a small 1.3 megapixel sensor. I eventually bought my own personal DSLR in 2006 and after joining the Louisville Art Association a few years later, created a side business (soaringlightimages.com) as a fine art landscape photographer. I continue to draw inspiration and motivation from looking at magazine photos, gallery shows, attending workshops, traveling around the West, and looking to capture both the ‘epic-sized’ scenery and the small and 'intimate landscape' views that are too often overlooked.
